So you've had an incident in your car and need some help? Whoa there, first help yourself out! Whether it was a rainbow "yawn" or an unexpected birth on the way to the hospital, there are a few things you can do to help reduce the possibility of a lingering odour before you call a detailer like me.
Number one - resist the urge to turn your A/C on. If you still need to get home from a trip it might be tempting to try and expel the offensive smell by blasting your air conditioning... However, this could contaminate your cabin filter. If this happens it will need to be replaced. It isn't difficult, but you would like to avoid unnecessary expense, right? Simply put the windows down instead. When you get home, put the vehicle in the garage with the windows down too. If you're game, or have a wet/dry vacuum you can remove as much of the offending material as you're comfortable with.
Now is the time to call me (if you haven't already!). Please disclose your problem on the phone. If someone tells me about a problem like this I immediately want to fit this into my schedule as soon as is possible. Many people are afraid to tell us what has happened and take a regular booking a few days later... This is not the way! The sooner it is dealt with, the faster it goes away!
I, and hopefully any other car detailer, if you chose someone else, would love to help you with your problem immediately. It doesn't just help you and your car, it improves the result. We're all about results, and aftercare.
About "aftercare". The longer your car has a bad smell, the longer it'll linger even after it has been cleaned properly. This is because synthetic fabrics, plastics, carpet and seats are notorious for absorbing odours. It'll take a few days for this to dissipate. If you can keep a window down where you park, it'll go away more quickly.
